Vɪᴅᴇᴏ Eᴅɪᴛɪɴɢ is one of my greatest passions. Soon after I turned 14 I sat down by Mom’s desk top computer, opened up Windows Movie Maker and imported the Lord of the Rings trilogy into the program. “How on Earth do I use this?”
Fast forward a few years and I had made a collection of music videos and skits and even found myself entering the thrilling world of film in College (complete with a little crush on my History of Motion Pictures teaching assistant and his passion for the arts, haha).
During the walks from the train station to Georgia State University I would listen to my iPod and ideas in the form of completed videos would flash before my eyes, and in between classes I would get lost in the city with my closest friends and make videos out of the footage we obtained. It was my life… Not long after, as a result of a complete fluke I began to create my own video editing style that consisted of matching characters’ mouth movements to quotes in other parts of a series or movie to make my own scenes from scratch.
I took it so seriously. After some years of patience and brainstorming I earned a good number of subscribers on Youtube and around a half a million views on some of my videos. I was too excited for words and more motivated than I had ever been, but then one day my account went *poof*. Copyright infringement.. The bane of using movies and shows as footage.. I should have known, but I still felt so crushed when my subscribers disappeared into the infinite abyss of cyberspace that I gave up for a while.
But never give up on what you love… Recently someone told me, “Rome wasn’t built in a day” and it put everything in perspective. Many of us will fail time and time again before we become successful!
Now that you know my story, I will tell you that the reason I shared it with you is for a reason far greater than any success: Today my 12-year old sister told me that she had completed her first music video using one of her favorite movies, “Spirited Away” and shared some other ideas that she already has. I am still at a loss for words to describe how that made me feel, but I am so excited, and so proud! ❤ A true proud sister moment that I never for a second of my life want to forget and thanks to technology I can give that moment a forever home right here 🙂
